Standard procedures for evaluating the electrostatic discharge (ESD) immunity of electronic products may yield very different results depending on how and where the test is done. Variations in the test set-up, test environment, equipment and technique can significantly affect the outcome. Researchers at Missouri S&T have been studying and modeling standard ESD test configurations and quantifying many of the test variables. The goal of this project is to develop a meaningful and repeatable (if not standard) test procedure for evaluating desktop computer peripherals.
